In passing I noted the dot on the first 8 indicated by an arrow on one of the pictures (http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... 0-S_VAM-63). No mention of it in the listing but it seemed to also show up on the VAM-45 picture (they share the same obverse die, apparently). I picked up a wonderful example recently that has all the major and minor PUPs of the VAM-63 coin - importantly including the dot on the 8 that I originally thought PMD:
I'll not post all the other pictures but here are a few showing it is definitely the VAM-63 (yes, a large S mm, not a medium one...just not shown):
Got me to looking at the listing that clearly states it shares the obverse with VAMs-45 and -124 -- I see all other PUPs on those pages (hair D, scratches in B RT, etc.) - looks like the dot is still on the VAM-45 but I don't see it on the VAM-124 date picture(s) - yet this might be b/c the VAM-124 coin shown has PMD in that exact area (looks like it was hit). Is it possible that the dot fades as the use progressed (presuming the obverse use in the 63 combo was earlier than the 124 - a wild speculation)?
1880-S VAM-63 dot on first 8 confirmed but questioning it...
