Sizable 78-S hole filled!
Found unattributed on eBay.
Got the coin in hand and my hunch confirmed.
It will be making a trip to OH via CO next submission.

I’m thinking XF details after initial look…but only 5 total in the SSDC registry to date, so I am pleased.
Back to trying to fill more holes…

Well done!!! Big coin in the 78S set. Every discovery coin led to another being found. Then another and another. Some stop at just a few examples because of that damn Pitman. But it proves a few are out there and its not a die state. I can see you working 8-12 hours a day and spending 5-6 hours a night looking for VAMs. Thats just what VAMs are to a hobbyist. Again, well done!!!

So.This VAM 110 Means nothing to me.I see no major variety for this 1878 S Dollar.

I don’t disagree, but since I’m working on a complete die marriage set, filling any remaining hole matters. With on-line offerings, I comb through dozens of listings each week, and this is the only one I’ve come across in years of looking. This marriage is rare, but to each his /her own. I tend to stick with the 1878 model year, which means I have lots of ho-hum coins to the average collector in my set.iwillbenice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 12:27 amSo.This VAM 110 Means nothing to me.I see no major variety for this 1878 S Dollar.![]()
In 1878, the SF mint swapped out dies a lot for who knows why making the set a tough one to complete, and no one has…The 110 obverse was paired with 3 reverses.

Scott, this is just another Die Pair in the 78S set. We would all agree with what you said. it was taken as you meant it to be though. But this guy isnt one of those who could use a reality check, He is a collector and makes nothing for sharing his finds or picturing coins for his own benefit . I've searched for this VAM for 15 years, I've only seen one in the wild. This is a BIG coin in the 78S Set. Not for a fancy name like Hot Lips. Just because it is so fing hard to find.iwillbenice wrote: ↑Wed Aug 02, 2023 12:27 amSo.This VAM 110 Means nothing to me.I see no major variety for this 1878 S Dollar.![]()
