Okay, so I saw this here 80P online and thought it looked weird. Of course, I thought it looked mostly "PMD" weird, but I couldn't convince myself of that, so I figured I needed a closer look...
Big picture, in hand it does in fact look like just a rub...

HOWEVER, on closer inspection it looks like a harsh die polishing may have been the culprit. It reminds me of scribbles, though I doubt my pics will really show that...

Look familiar to anyone? Anyone have a simple explanation?

Looks like PMD that is just localized to that area to me. it is very interesting though
I plan to collect VAMs and maybe discover new ones, but until then I'm just here. :lol: Don't forget this is a live and learn hobby have fun with it.

So, I guess it wise for me to add that none of the devices seem to be affected at all.
Dom, she is normal silver colored...

I say struck through, looks like a cloth or rag maybe?

Possible they were trying to scub something out, I guess?

What variety is it?

Looks as if someone was attempting to polish it. The spot at the bottom of Liberty's neck where the same issue is, is what makes me think of them setting down a rotary type of tool (dremmel) and making contact away from the edge inadvertently. In other words...tooling??
As Doug asks. What VAM is it?
