6 rolls of Spitting Eagles!

Post by DHalladay » Thu Jun 15, 2023 1:05 pm

In its August 14 ("coming auctions") listings, Heritage has 120... yes 120... NGC-graded and attributed 1891-CC VAM 3 Spitting Eagles. They range from MS60 MS64, with a whole bunch of 61s and 62s in-between. All are pedigreed to the Tahoe Tavern Casino Collection.

I can't wait to see the bidder fatigue and price drop off that happens with this.
When in doubt... don't.

I looked thru about a dozen of these at random and didn't pull up any VAM 7's. The VAM 3 was already clearly the most common marriage for this year. I'd bet a chunk of these sell below common money.

What's their provenance? Remainders of a bag?

Been staying away from the CC Mint coins because of all the hype. Should have bought my high grade 82, 83, and 84 coins a few years ago. I'll wait for the next slump for them. Looks like the time for the 91 CC though. 64 is the top grade in my mind. Been collecting the rarer coins in 65 for a few years as prices have been low. Dumping that many coins at once will help some and hurt many, especially the seller. Time to BUY !!!

Any seller including Auction houses including Heritage should have more sense
than to frontload so many similiar vams in a single auction. Crazy for poor
seller.

VAM 3 isn't really sold for the VAM, rather for it being a 91-CC. The market should be able to absorb 120 uncirculated 91-CCs without batting an eye.

There's also over a dozen 1878-CC VAM 4 examples. A peculiar cache of coins there, Tahoe!
