Obscure third party grading question

So i follow the philosophy buy the coin not the holder and saw an 1882 O/S graded by an co named NFC graded a MS65<<< yes I know its probably not a 65 but i would be happy with a 62, but it arrived yesterday and is at least a 63 /64. Im not good enough to grade past a 63 so I have to ask, is it possible NFC got the grade right???? I cant find anything on them so Im guessing they are crap.

Not likely that the grade is correct, but "on occasion even a blind squirrel finds an acorn". Hence, buy the coin & not the holder.

Treat the slab as you would a 2x2 that someone wrote the grade on.

True even a broken clock is right twice a day

Yes, i figured that is why i bought the COIN not the holder, but i was surprised it even is either close to or a 63. I was expecting a 60 -61 but or even an AU but after viewing other 65s this has a lot of feathers and hair, more than listed 65's so that got me thinking so i guess im going to have to send it in to be sure.

Has anyone even heard of numastic funding corp??

I have even seen PCGS graded coins that are graded MS65 that are obviously an AU58, and AU58 that is undoubtedly MS. I agree, buy the coin. I personally hate the grading companies (all of them) and trust none of them. Obviously, some are better than others. My personal view is also that it is absurd to reject "cleaned" coins. They have damage, but so do all coins. They should be graded with the cleaning just counted as damage the same as any other damage. But, admittedly, I do have some controversial views.

Comment:
There are a lot of AU-58 (and lower circulated) coins siting in MS-XX holders from all three major TPGs. The same applies to EF coins in AU-XX holders. Collectors have to learn not to depend on ANY TPG to present consistent, reliable, accurate "grades" any more. That horse left the gate long ago -- and was going in the wrong direction.

If anyone cares to give their opinion on the grade, would be appreciated. Im being conservative with a 62 but think it can rise to 63 or better. Your thoughts....

I think on a normal day it would get a MS-63 but on a good day maybe MS-64.

OK, that's not a grading service, just an inventory tag for a dealer. Decent looking coin, though. How does it fare on the white paper test for AU58?

[Squirrels find buried nuts by smell, not sight. They also know to search within their territory.]

A "broken clock" is not right twice a day. Passage of time is measured by active devices or solar position. Since a broken clock can measure neither, it is correctly described as "never right." (This on an AM-PM system -- a 24 hr timepiece would have only one dial or number display per 24-hour day.)

:)

Time does not exist physically and no one even knows if it exists at all, the measure of time is man made and is only relevent for us earth bound vam hunters. We could always "follow the science" or not

I love that test, im so glad you mentioned it... it does ok, enough to make me question it. I was expecting much worst after seeing that co name. That explains why I found only lawsuits regarding their name.

I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely send it in for grading and attribution, just have to gather so others to send.
