1888 S Far Date none listed any help appreciated

Post by demetri » Sat Apr 29, 2023 9:45 pm

I picked this poor looking coin because it has a far date (and the price was right). The date is slanted so it could be a vam 5 but the listing does not show the full coin or the date placement. Also the reverse has duplicate denticles at the bottom. I dont have the coin in hand yet but the suspense is killing me so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ebuyer beware!
Return that thing back to the seller
As soon as possible
That’s not a vam
It might stick to a magnet …

If you've ever heard me talk about 'black shit' on a counterfeit, this is a good illustration

It looks funny right, it was cheap so I wanted to see it up close. I dont own any fakes yet so this will be my first.

I haven't but I will check it out. I could see it was weird right away, the second 8 almost looks like a 6 lol and the color looks like steel so it just might stick.

Can I get into trouble for owning it???

I have read about fakes, and seen some pictures and videos but have never seen one in person. One listed in a recent discussion looked like a turkey it was so bad LOL so since this is so cheap I want to see it in hand and get a close look see. I was suspicious right away with date and denticles and needed some confirmation. It was not likely that none of the features were listed not to mention an 88S so cheap right off the bat set my feelers off lol.

BTW I picked a beautiful high grade 82 O vam 7 last week for peanuts so Im on a nice roll ha ha ha and can spare a 20 on this dog, It might make a nice buckle.

Your white paper test is the best, so simple yet effective................ I wanna see this 'black shit' and poke it with a stick

Unless it was free, the price was not right. If eBay, file a SNAD as a counterfeit coin.

I actually was over bid to $46, can you imagine that? I really wanted to see one and scratch that black shit, wondering is it paint or a rust. Seller said he had more, curious to see what else he is peddling. Dang wanted to play with that one.

I guess i should report the seller to remove fakes from market, since he said he has more.
