1880-P VAM-41 Hot 50 - Nice Find
Went to my favorite shop and made an unexpected find. Picked up four raw MS64s, one 1886-P that I have to post later, an 1886-P VAM-1E2, an 1884-O clash I’m still working on and an 1887-P with date/star doubling that has a nice die break above the rear letters. Looked at all the slabs but no clashes or doubling so none of those came home. Also picked up seven XF-AU Morgans from a tube @ $31 each based on condition without any close looks. Under the scope one dark one, about AU 55, had me thinking I had a coin with major strike doubling as there is wide doubling above the Moto letters. Turned out to be a Hot 40 VAM-41! Is this as scarce as the SSDS census indicates with only seven listed? Here are a few pictures including one of the eye that shows some lumpy spots.

Looks like a nice find to me. Always fun to find something like this (er, these) in the wild.
