1879 VAM ?
If all of you would be so kind I have one more that is puzzling me. 1879 rev of 79. I have enclosed pics of the date, the neck, reverse line (partial), full front and back, and a raised area above the olive branch with a defined line to it. Thanks again for your help.
Re: 1879 VAM ?
Sorry, to me these pictures don't show nearly enough detail to begin to help. The sheer number of varieties of that year requires a lot of details be seen.
Plus, all 1879 Philadelphia coins are 'rev of 79' so this information is a bit redundant? Unless this is from San Fran ... but there are even MORE varieties there that would need a lot more detailed pictures.
Sorry can't help more.

Re: 1879 VAM ?
Lesson learned. Do not take pictures after midnight. Better pics in the morning.
Re: 1879 VAM ?
Again, sorry. Is there a reason you're taking pictures of your monitor instead of uploading the pictures directly? The resolution will be much higher and we might be able to help better. These picture don't show really any good information.
Can you say where/how you've done your own research? Best place for this coin, especially as it looks like you're focusing on the supposed clash, is at http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... ashed_Dies
Don't mean to send you to where you may have gone before, but the broader descriptions of what to look for is at http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... e_Clashing. Note: No letter transfer from obv to rev (or rev to obv), no real clash regardless of the other (and often impressive) clash lines.
Many things are better in the morning... unfortunately after wild nights sometimes they're worse...

79 Phillies represent the deep end of the pool. Very few listings present easy answers. The date is riddled with multiple dies that have remarkably similar features. Unless you can capture images of some die markers you're going to get nowhere with this one.

Hopefully better photos. The spot above the olive branch is a raised area with a defined edge on the right side. The date also shows some doubling. I know there are a lot of different scenarios with the 79. Thanks again.

Re: 1879 VAM ?
I have resorted to begging now. I have 100 VAM dollars, and 98 confirmed Vam numbers. I just need opinions on 2. The 1886 and the 1879 listed in the first and second page of listings. I am relatively new, but I already help when I have the knowledge to do so. I think this forum is great!
Re: 1879 VAM ?
Again, very happy to help but without high quality, clear pictures they will remain mysteries.
1879-P coins had at least 157 die pairs so the sheer number of potential variations is great - but limited, thankfully.
No pictures of your coin on a monitor, only up-close clear pictures of key points: date digits, epecially, but don't forget the reverses can be differentiated based on their PUPs (http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... -P_Reverse), too.
There are answers for you, my friend. Don't give up!
