1880-P VAM-1G and VAM-35/35A (1F) clarification?
Just wondering if both the obverses and reverses of the varieties - 1G versus 35/35A (the old 1F) are, indeed, different?
I believe the reverses might be, but the obverses look identical, even if the 1G supposedly doesn't have any digit doubling.

Still looking into this and believe I am correct: shared obverse but different reverses. Still, the 35 is a clear "Doubled 1-80" in the description which rules out it having a shared obverse with the 1G. Is there a potential kill of the 1G in order?
Can anyone confirm/comment?

Hi Gary, In my opinion they are different dies. Under my microscope, the doubling on the "0" in the date is noticeably different. The V1G shows much more doubling on the inside left of the "0" and the V35/V35A shows primarily most doubling on the inside right. Also, I have not been able to find any die scratches that are common to both. Hopefully these photos will be clear enough. If not, I can try to swap lenses an take some better photos.

Thanks. I have a coin I'll need to look at more closely because it shows the general die fatigue around the date, stars and lower hairline, but I'm unsure now if it's a 1G or a 35/35A.

It looks like the VAM 35A picture (labeled VAM 1F) of the first 8 is shown alongside the first 8 from VAM 1G, perhaps to show that VAM 1G doesn't have the big blob in the bottom of the 8.

Re: 1880-P VAM-1G and VAM-35/35A (1F) clarification?
Thanks, John. I'm curious how the two different obverse dies could show so similar die fatigue to one another. From what I see the bumps/fatigue across the fields seem to be nearly identical to one another, even if the digits have blobs or not. A very untrained set of eyes I'm using, for sure, so all more experienced and expert help is appreciated!

Hi Mitch! Nice to hear from you, it's been a long time! Here are a couple of photos of the "A" in "DOLLAR." I'm not sure what you see here, would love to know!

Rocking awesome pictures!!! Thanks for all the input. Boy howdy are these similar in many ways but I see the apparent differences now. Will look at my coin in more details to determine what I have.
Thanks again,
