Hi All
I was wondering did PCGS/NGC get alot of PL designations wrong on Morgans ? AKA designation of a PL when in fact its a SEMI PL ? Or is it possible in some way for a PL to lose its PL over time in a Holder ? Or was there a Time Frame at PCGS/NGC that PL standards where when not quite up to par ? Im just really curius to insight on this .
I know its up to the Grader but I would think some graders dont follow the same standard or if it was for a certain High Profile customer they might be more accomadating .
Please Post your Thoughts on this .

Re: PCGS/NGC PL question
PL standards have shifted around a LOT over the past 35 years at grading services. Some of the coveted old holders are the most leniently judged coins when it comes to that designation. There are coins in old DMPL holders that are barely PL.

Many thanks for that INFO , That what I was thinking on the Standards Shifting over the years . I was just trying to figure out Why , But as said " Buy the Coin and Not the Holder "
But as we know photos can be deceiving . So it is also wise to consider the age of the holder and what time frame it was graded . I would think the standards now are quite compliant thru out the TPG's , at least I would hope so with the Big 3 ( AND CAC ) .
But many thanks for the info , and that's important to know and understand the WHY !!!

Re: PCGS/NGC PL question
The more PL/DMPL coins you see in person, the more abundantly clear this scary reality becomes – and it really drives home what a minefield it is to buy them in on-line auctions... one reason being the fraudulent enhancement of photos that some sellers do to make coins look more PL/DMPL/CAM/DCAM than they really are.
When in doubt... don't.
