Fingers crossed for ya - seems to be a straight-forward story and a good discovery one at that... How about I challenge you to find a V3 reverse with a new obverse pairing...?

i have seen this doubled 1 on a number of different 1882 vams. i really love this acid treated reverse. it is one of the most eye catching and startling examples.

I have the coin in hand and it turns out this is an example of VAM 27. It has the same obverse as VAM 20 with the line at the top of the throat. I'm not sure I knew the VAM 3 obverse was a stage of this same obverse but it clearly is. I added comments on the VAM 3 page noting the link to VAMs 20 and 27. Also made notes on the VAM 8 and 27 pages about the shared reverse.
Sorry you didn't get a new listing out of this, but your coin did advance our understanding of the date.
