I completely overlooked the wing issue as I thought this was in hand and verified.
It's now suspect till further info is provided.

Well done, Mark, JB, Dennis, et all - this is a next generation counterfeit.

Imagine once they start making these out of silver. Or even melted down Morgan dollars. Or artificially, giving them the appropriate bag marks, etc. And then putting them inside of fake NGC holders.

I’m trying to find out where the seller got it from but as you can imagine they are not being very forthright. I would imagine Alibaba, but can’t be sure.

They threw it up on eBay buy it now for a low price and I hurriedly grabbed it. Since the photos were blurry - it looked right (and phenomenal). The thought of it being a counterfeit definitely crossed my mind, but hey, it’s a eBay, buyer protection. If nothing else we get some good photos of a dangerous counterfeit.

While opening the mail, my wife it dropped on the kitchen counter, I heard it from the other room and knew it was a counterfeit immediately before even looking at it from the noise. What I didn’t expect is that it would be such a well executed counterfeit.

Would love it if somebody wanted to do an article on one of these, hopefully an article that the TPG’s would pick up and send out.

I reload, so I have accurate calipers and sensitive scales, will post some specs mañana if anyone wants to do a write up. I will also take some better photos, including photos of the problems I see, and key diagnostics. Overall, in hand, I suspect it won’t be an issue for any one who’s fairly adept with silver dollars. Unfortunately that’s a pretty small group in the grand scheme of things.

If I had not almost bought what I considered a 1894s vam 5 , that /I Could not find a reference photo for pretty sure I would have bought this one had I seen IT ..... not to derail this topic it looks an aweful lot like a VAM 9... but I will defer to those who know ... and ya I think it fake ,,,,,, very close but still
