THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
Some 35 yrs ago - I lived in Central Californias San Joaquin Valley, the heart of production
agriculture where i was involved with raising cattle and supporting myself
as a professional cattle auctioneer.
My auctioneer buddy and myself had just bought our 2nd nice airplane to
travel to our auctions. We were hired to cry a large Registered Angus bull and
Heifer sale just out of Biloxi Mississippi. At the sale i met a gentleman who told
me his family was heir to a huge coin collection of which they were trying to
find a buyer for the complete collection.
Turns out mans grandfather willed collection down to his son and he continued
collecting all his life, amassing a huge Morgan dollar coll & to a much lesser
extent, a large US Gold coin coll. Their problem was finding a large enough
dealer to purchase the complete collection as 4 heirs were involved
Turns out, the numbers were truly staggering at almost 80,000 Morgans
and 6500 gold coins of varied denominations. I was floored and wheels
started turning, In my motel i began thinking how a guy like me could buy
such a multi million dollar collection. Over next 1 week i developed a plan,
while continually talking with owners, after verifying numbers and meeting all
heirs. We all got along great and the plan was for me to oversee the counting,
seperate denominations , and attach a value that was dealer friendly.
A multi step purchase i developed was agreed upon after prices were established
Grading & selling select coins was necessary to fund the next purchase.
It literally tookme 1 1/2 yrs to complete the purchase and made me a millionaire
in the process. I sold more common coins for cash while keeping the rest
Today i own about 1/2 of the orig Morgans and O of the gold coins
All graded/slabbed by PCGS/NGC
I had purchased a few collections but this allowed/propelled me to advertize
Buying Coin Collections in Magazines & Newspapers, which was a total success.
Today some 55% of my collection is graded with balance still raw/ungraded but
sorted/self graded. About 35% of graded coins are vam attrib, so a very long
way to go to attrib just graded Morgans.
Its been a blast doing all this but age is telling me to begin liquidating, so
a plan is in place to begin selling, of which will be all graded coins
Sales will help defray grading/attrib costs (self serving)
I am deferring all sales to Heritage as im not interested in trying to deal
with all the people in order to try selling myself. I would end up in Looney Bin LOL

I thought it was Redfield that you bought 80,000 Morgan from.... something begins to smell funny....
Have a great day!
Re: THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
Fogie; Redfield purchases; Not 80,000 Redfield was an accumulation over several yrs
of trips to Reno, and in total not near as many as Biloxi

Re: THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
And it it has been forever.
So many wild stories.
Never any photos.
Never any corroboration.
Endless excuses.
When in doubt... don't.

I think he is writing a Non-Fiction book

Re: THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
I would think the purchase would be easy. After all, you owned 2 airplanes.

I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?
Re: THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
I can understand naysayers as my hoard purchases have been quite large and
over many yrs. I need not prove their validity to anyone, especially anyone here who
throws stones at otherwise positive posts.
To the few neg comments here= GO POUND SAND!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: THE ULTIMATE PICKIN STORY
So my life experiences concerning coins and collecting seems to some members here
a lie/untrue, unverified, etc etc. Why the heck would or should i even bother to post my
positive experiences onhere just to get blasted by naysayers and worse??
As a result i will refrain from any POSTS period and just simply lurk and read posts by others
At this juncture i am tired and older and dont need the negative feedback that my posts seem
to create periodically.
Never posting again period will alliviate this issue, and i wish most members here well and
happy vamming. I will only respond to PM by a few member friends here
Additionally. my posts on BST, updating metals mkts info and more will also stop
