1882 O 38B WOW O/O?? HELP

Post by demetri » Wed Jan 25, 2023 5:35 am

Just picked this AU 1882 O vam 38B @fogie (this coin is on your list but was not in a holder) and noticed the MM seems doubled or can that be PMD. Any thoughts.........

One of my favorite coins! To the point of attempting a bit of holiday fun in the past: http://www.vamworld.com/forum/viewtopic ... 80&p=50301.

The PCGS 64 I have on hand looks to be in a similar die state as yours. I don't apparently see the same potential O/O:

I'll try and pull out my other higher grade example(s) as your does look interesting!

There's a long history of questions that got real answers from a 'poke it with a stick' reply

No matter what conclusions come forth here about O/O or etc, This v38B needs more
research work as many PUP'S are also on 1882 o/s, which is only natural.
Rust is but one of 38B that is a huge PUP on O/S- Ive been calling for some in know to
look at 38B further, to no avail

I love 38B with all going on and ms 64 is tough but ms65 super tough as i have found 3 so far,
after looking at hundreds ++ i think further work on 38B may lead to some unknown or adjustments
to the O/S series

I truly hope someone takes up the task of additional study of dies etc

I'll bet man, have seen you say that in a few posts. Just poking atcha lol The 1882 O never ceases to amaze me. Somehow I missed this vam and it is one of the coolest so far. Could definitely use more research on it, pups galore but this pick was an AU so now the hunt for a raw higher grade lol

If I knew what I was doing I would do it, but I dont know anything....... But I agree, it is all around a great coin, clashed all over, multiple letters, why its not more highly regarded I cant figure. Well you have competition now, Im hunting for a higher grade now lol
