OT; CC gold book

Post by ljs123 » Wed Jan 25, 2023 12:47 am

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Recently I noticed a book being advertised on the Heritage site.
THE CONFIDENT CARSON CITY COIN COLLECTOR
by Rusty Goe

I am looking for a book that covers CC gold to include the different varieties and rarity. I have no idea what this book covers and if it would give information on the different die pairs of CC gold. I don't mind if it covers other CC coins, but I would like good information on the gold coins from CC.

If anyone has any comments about this book or any other way for me to learn more about CC gold, please let me know.

Thanks again,
Lee :)

if you don't get an exact answer of what you are looking for, Doug Winters should have something very in-depth for any gold series.

also, if you don't get a great answer here, ask on ngc or pcgs forum. you'd surely get some wonderful and effective responses.

i saw some books recently that winters co-authored with people but i didn't recognize their names and don't remember them now.

it is also possible the NNP has something uploaded for free. they have a wonderful and expansive selection of catalogs, old greysheets, many publications etc.

If you're just after info on the Carson City gold issues, Doug Winter's book 'Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint' is the standard reference.
Rusty Goe's three volume set is excellent and covers pretty much everything

I already have a copy of Doug Winter's book "Gold Coins Of The New Orleans Mint 1839-1909".
I look on Amazon and was shocked at the price of a used copy of 'Gold Coins of the Carson City Mint'.
I'm finding out that it is out of print.
I'm hoping that I can locate one for a whole lot less.

Does anyone have a copy that they don't want?
Thanks again

I got a quick reply to my email.

He said that the book is rare and out of print.
I guess that I will have to pony up.

if you change the last digits, maybe that will turn up some more books?

if you have an ANA membership, they have a lending library as well.

By the way, the 3 volume set by Rusty Goe covers every date for every CC issue, but doesn't dig into varieties in any depth,

I'll bookmark these on my variety resources page. The Charlotte gold is in there, too. Just look under books by Doug Winter.
