Interesting Seated Obstruction Error

Post by twohawks » Sun Jan 22, 2023 12:36 am

I bought this coin today in the shop. Its an 1860 O Seated Liberty half dollar with a half dime obstruction strike. Best of all is I have both the coin and the obstruction. :D

Exceedingly cool! I assume a multi-coin slab is in its future.

Nice coin! Looks like a 1B3 to me... or a PCGS MS62 1881-S V54B... Or a 1889-CC that would
"never" grade. although your opinion of never and mine are apparently quite different.
I use Websters and google definition of Never.... Hope you do well on it!

I can't put my finger on it, but something about this piece bothers me. I'd suggest matching it to a listed marriage before sending it out.

The coins scales exactly as seated half and a half dime. Here is an image of the obverse, as well.

As far as the rotation goes, I did not take the time to line it correctly up.

Are you thinking that visually the lower leaf the H and the A appear to match more rotation-ally than some of the other elements? I'm sure you can see something else, And everything I just said could be optical illusion , like as in the two pieces are not in the same plane or something .. just curious

Like I said, can't put my finger on it. But just because I'm suspicious doesn't mean it's bad. I'm supposed to react to the extraordinary with skepticism.

I'm hoping its real . faking that would take a computer , a milling machine , and possible use of something like LIDAR . I had a similar skepticism the first time i read about the 23a Vam , NOT SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE about any of this , just a good idea to question the extortionary in this game , i think .
