Please consider for DISCOVERY
Per new discovery guide, posting this here. 1897-S received today. The MM and date I consider within normal range. I'm fairly certain that's an unlisted eagle neck gouge and the wing-neck gap seems very unique with a heavy scratch up top. Remnents of a chip and clash on the left wreath. Lines around the 7th right star I find interesting. No cracks or breaks. Thread-like impression near cotton blossom. More data available upon request. Could this be my first??

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
Can't say if this is a DC or not, but the "gouges" you show are actually just clash remnants.
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

Why is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? I encourage enthusiasm, but get tired of the constant "discovery?" question.

Can I see the MM and wreath please. I'm tired of looking at the coin I've been looking at all day , lets look at yours .

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
The bit under the eagle's jaw is a clash mark. I found a match for the reverse in a die study that Alan Scott did and based on auction and CoinFacts photos and he said it's pretty "Plain Jane," possibly VAM 1 or 3, but the thread impression you show isn't mentioned. The date might qualify for slightly slanted. There are more die pairs in his study identified than are currently listed in the VAM catalog, so there are new die pairs out there that could be listed. I'm not sure that this is one of them.
Welcome to the VAMWorld 2.0 discussion boards. R.I.P. old VAMWorld.

Pretty sure its expected to lay it out here first. Can you match it up? If you're tired, go rest up. Buck up mate.LateDateMorganGuy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:21 pmWhy is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? You are free of course to post it here and ask for help. That is what this site is about. But immediately jumping to the "D" word is what gets me. I can buck it up, but I have been around the block a lot more times than you have. Enjoy this hobby and ignore folks like me if you choose.
Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
He is just following the new DC guideline of posting it here for more eyes to evaluate first, as opposed to simply sending it to @vampicker or @messydesk where it might slow things down in their lives. I say bravo for following directions.
When in doubt... don't.

From experience, Couldn't agree more

Re: Please consider for DISCOVERY
Adventure and profit both motivate people. Neither should be discouraged in a hobby, unless we’re looking for a repeat of what happened years ago, where some folks systematically discouraged and disparaged everyone who dare wanted to sell VAMs. Many of you were not here at the time, but the VW forum used to be far more active than it is today. I’ll put it this way, I know people more people who left these boards that are on them now. Patience is a virtue. Let’s seek to be virtuous.LateDateMorganGuy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:21 pmWhy is it that everything with new comers seems to be a new discovery? Really???
"Per new discovery guide, posting this here. 1897-S received today."
What's wrong with this posting? They did everything by the book and you're slamming them?
Did you bother to look at replies from other members?
Makes me want to quit this site.

@LateDateMorganGuy Now your just being dramatic , I;m sorry for what i said the other day , you're right you have been here forever and deserve, respect , Please tell me the truth straight up because I have known for along time the coin grading thing is rigged . Someone in the know told me so as he looked right into my eyes with some kind of expression like pity .I have also not found anyone or anything to convince me otherwise .
You come off a little put off by some of us struggling to understand this . Heck man I am just trying to put numbers in a book . My book is not for sale BTW . I could give 2 craps about giving PCGS or NGC any more grading fees { just so you know I set PCGS up and they did not disappoint on any submission I ever sent in }
Are we not suppose to look if the numbers are not found in the VAMWORLD PAGES ? If the obverse on a 1880-O matches the Vam numbers , 2B2 exactly but that vam is supposed to have a center normal MM and not one set left . I looked pretty close for the die combination to no avail..... What am I suppose to do , write duck instead of a number ?
Please tell me this is not rigged too cause it will break my heart . @MarkyB probably spent allot of time looking for that number, maybe you should explain why you think he is wrong instead of acting like that ,,, Just sayin'
