A Dozen VAMs for 2023

Post by vampicker » Sun Jan 15, 2023 2:13 pm

The list was presented at FUN as the program right before VAM Thing. This set is live on the SSDC Registry. It's also on our page here on VAM World with all the previous annual lists.
1. 1878 VAM 166 A key B2 listing
2. 1878-S VAM 60 the stopper for the Long Nock set. These will sell strong in virtually any identifiable condition
3. 1879 VAM 74 two sided pitted die
4. 1879-S VAM 74 unusual re-engraved upper TF paired with obverse used for ultra rare VAM 135
5. 1881-O VAM 5 evil mimic of O/S variety
6. 1882-O VAM 21/21A early stage is another O/S evil mimic, later stage is a great clasher
7. 1888-S VAM 14A nice DDO/RPM with added bonus of radial break thru date.
8. 1891 VAM 10 an under the radar variety with pitting in date
9. 1922-D VAM 2Z obverse die on the verge of shattering, wave break thru date
10. 1923-S VAM 1AZ busy from attempts to remove clashmarks
11. 1935-S VAM 4 an extra ray and a DDR on a better date
12. 1877-S Coxe 4 Duck Lips! yup, a Trade Dollar.

Hope you enjoy hunting these down

JR, thank you. As always a cool list of VAMs.

Where can we see a photo of the Trade Dollar Duck Lips?

Challlenge accepted.

Yet, I believe I'm missing something. I'm no darkside expert but I don't see the 35-S VAM-4 with an extra ray - I do the VAM-3...

It's the Cb reverse. C=extra ray

VAM 6 is the Cc reverse, a different DDR. The VAM 4 extra ray feature is mentioned in the Top 50 book and noted in its nomenclature.

#1 and #2 on this list are really difficult.
When in doubt... don't.

I can clearly see the extra ray on the picture on this post, but the description (http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... 35-S_VAM-4) doesn't say anything about an extra ray like it does on the VAM-3 page... and explained on the VAM-6 page. Should the VAM-4 page be updated so others aren't confused like me?

Challenge still excepted even if it is a darkside piece. ;-)

Edited the title page. Also an object lesson in reading the VAM nomenclature.

There's a "Join the SSDC" link on the upper part of the navigation pane on the wiki. Benefits include access to the SSDC Set Registry and price guide, helping support VAMWorld and the registry, eligibility for the registry competition. There's an e-mail newsletter that comes out now and then, but not as often as it used to.
Welcome to the VAMWorld 2.0 discussion boards. R.I.P. old VAMWorld.
