1882-O VAM-38B... Picture Dump of Close-Up Details...

Post by TheYokel » Tue Nov 20, 2018 2:58 am

Finally bought a coin on purpose knowing what it is! :)

May not know enough to identify my own marks yet, but y'all showed me enough to at least be able to match a coin up if it's obvious (I mean you really can't miss this one...)...

The pictures on the VAM listing don't do this coin justice... So thought i would post some pics for interested parties :)

Start with the Obverse and the clash that made me look at the listing twice... This thing is massive...

Reverse: The Reverse is clashed also, but the cracks are the best part about the backside :)

And my Eagle has antlers :)

I don't know if you will be able to see it... But it actually looks like a crack went through the entire leaf by the bow...

I'll try to get better pics of it when I have better lighting...

When I get home from dinner I need to look at the crack from the rim and N on the left side to see if it connects with the same crack from the leaf in the bow i photo'd.... Poor die might have almost been cracked in half?...

Edit: actually looking twice... The dies have been clashed at least two times. You can see the multiple shelfs behind Anna's cap and again beside the left wing of the eagle in the "antlers"?...

Super great job on pick and pictures. I love this coin period. Take a close look at reverse eagle etc and view
the rust pimples just like the 1882 o/s series. Sometimes the 38 B will
display rust pimples on the OBV as well.

As the self appointed 1882 o/s King (LOL) with over 2500 examples
Yrs ago i started collecting O/S and today i still dont know why
I was and am excited about the 38B and have amassed quite a few
including a few ms65. Its a special girl and needs more study attention
as related to the O/S series but no one seems interested

Oh I definitely think she has rust spots on her. You can see them in her cap in one of the clash photos on the obverse :) (edit: also really good photo of the rust pimples on her nose and cheek, ironically)

And i bought this one specifically to study for a while, so she will definitely get some eyeball time.

1 down... 11 to go?... ;)

Edit edit: it looks like her lip clashed a berry in the leaves on the Reverse and left the ol gal with a mustache, lol...

I'm going to have so much fun with this coin... :)

Great pic's and specimen. That's some wicked clashing (love those bat wings) with a couple of breaks thrown in.

Ok Ant, now look at all of that AWESOME clashing, then check out the rather weak, mushy bit of the G clash... that should give you a better handle on how hard a clash has to be to leave letter transfer.😉
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

Great study coin, so much going on with this stage. The layers of clashmarks found on these might make your brain hurt.

To be completely honest... That was my entire logic behind buying it... ;)
