Help with 1878-S VAM attribution
Hello everybody and best wishes for a happy new year.
I wish 2023 brings everyone great VAM pick.
I'm looking to buy this coin from a dealer. It seems to be a B2 variety with 4th Star Unbroken and r in Trust Unbroken and tried to attribute it with mm location from here http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... k_Location but i'm not able...
Looking at mm, those who come closest are VAM-111 (but unfortunately can't see 1° pup for this one) and VAM-100
Maybe VAM guys more experienced than me can help. Thanks
Here are some pics

Re: Help with 1878-S VAM attribution
I'm Sure someone that is busy in Florida could probably pick it out , but the novice typing is just reminded that he still needs to put a vam number on his own 78-S short nock specimen,
The pictures are not defined enough for this novice to help , sorry man .
Looking at your Date and guessing the OBVERSE appears to be the same as the 1B, but the back is not ,,,,,,, so many numbers and so few bullets

4th star is broken
Re: Help with 1878-S VAM attribution
Definitely need a close up of that 4th star as it looks broken to me. Subtle and not missing the whole point, but broken is broken...

You could try this I guess ,. In an attempt to make the list shorter . Here are all the shared VAMS with the same Obverse { I think) . Now start crossing off all the long nocks . The point of that star looks broken to me as well , and the R does look intact , but I could just be looking at Rorschach Inkblot Test

Start with a close-up of the engraved feather under the eagle's right wing.

You already told me once that for 78-S have to start looking at engraved feather under the eagle's right wing. Is there any kind of attribution guide for that?

Here you go ! http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compu ... ther_GUIDE
And a big thank you to whoever fixed the attribution guide links on that page today . They were red yesterday and still under construction or something . It looks like a monumental amount of work has gone into this ,
