pocket change coin question

Post by playtime1 » Mon Dec 26, 2022 10:19 pm

This coin is definitely out of my comfort zone. I looked this morning at my change from Star Bucks, only to discover that my Washington Quarter, was looking at me to the right instead of the normal left profile. I Googled the 2022 Washington quarter, only to realize that the mint made the obverse change this year. I then read about a Drooling George variety, which is supposed to be rare. Guess what, the first coin I looked at is a Drooling George. Are these actually rare, or is this the 2022 comparable of the Morgan Spitting Eagle or the Franklin Bugs Bunny? Here is the coin, which cost me all of 25 cents.

With the little research I did, the price is all over the board . Less than $10 to a grand or so.
Not the right place for prices but since it's not a Morgan...

I agree that maybe we should move discussion to the Buy, Sell area , or What’s it worth. I would like to hear from J.R. , if he knows anything about the scarcity of the George Drool variety.

I prefer to think of that variety as the barbecue sauce mouth variety. It is by no stretch of the imagination rare. This is the equivalent of the smile die crack on Peace dollars that goes across the tip of the bust. I imagine this may result in rework of the model a bit to try and prevent the die break in the future.

JB
Thanks for your input. I was rather skeptical going in on this discussion, and yes there is quite a wide spread of opinions of the so called value on Flee bay. Let the buyer beware. As I wrote initially, it can’t be too rare since it was in my breakfast change. Thanks everyone.
