SSDC Registry Status
Local power went out and has been restored. The UPS held for the servers, but the network has not yet restored. Until then, the service will not be available.
Re: SSDC Registry Status
We are back. Had to clean up some filesystem errors and restart services.
Re: SSDC Registry Status
Not so good. It took a dive. I am not sure if it is disks or the power supply. I did check and I have the midnight database backup. The code was backed up a little while back in August I believe with very few changes. So the only potential losses would be images since then possibly. But I need to see exactly what is the problem. Sure wish there was a Fry's still open in case I need parts. Nothing is open today anyway. I hope I can restore everything before leaving for Orlando, but that is tough. I will see, if I have the space to do so, if I can restore things to another of my servers temporarily.
Re: SSDC Registry Status
Installed the database on another server. Checks out okay. Bringing the 28 Sept tar file for the server code and images. That will take a couple hours probably. Then I will install it. Might as well reconfigure the web service to accommodate it while I wait.

Will probably take about 6 hours to scp the tar file over. It is too large for USB and CD media. Once there, I will unpack it and restart the web service.
I think the best approach will now be to replace the original server's drives with SSDs, load the latest Ubuntu server version, install the packages needed, restore the registry server code, and bring over whatever the latest database is while on hiatus on my other server.
What this should give us in the interim is the ability to use the registry as normal and register coins. The two things that will not be done are code updates from me and no new image uploads. I just do not want to have to move a lot of those files back to the original hardware, just the database. Very few code changes were made since the Sept 27th backup I am restoring. The ones that come to mind deal with Trade dollars and a fix for a set scoring problem related to set zombie orphans when attributions were changed and with respect to locked slots.

Re: SSDC Registry Status
I brought up the Registry on one of my old servers, hopefully for a short time only. It runs much more slowly. Things like Site Statistics, My Inventory (if you have a lot of registered coins), and working with big sets, like 1921 might time out or at least be unbearable. Might also trip over some missing packages I need to install.
Was able to get some SSD drives , the last ones in town, at two different Best Buys and and going to pick them up tomorrow. On the bright side, the Ubuntu Server version was out of support, so we stopped getting security updates and easy access to apt-get packages. Needed to upgrade. It will be a fresh install of the latest version and configuration. Bear with me as I have not done this in over a decade; so my chops are not on the cutting edge anymore. The rehoming of the code along takes over 6 hours too. The goal is to have it up and running before I leave for FUN (Orlando) in a week. Hope no problems come up. (Also need to make a powerpoint for the VAM Thing there still.)
What we have is the current database. Almost all of the code is there. I made a few bug fixes on set scoring that I won't commit time again to right now. Image files are as they were on Sept 27th. Any changed ones or later uploads won't be there. I could turn off that functionality while temporarily on this other server, but will just advise to not play with the images. They will be lost in transitioning back. The main thing is that the basic functions will work. Any new registrations and price guide changes will be okay. I will use the latest backup of the database when rehoming it all again.
I need to get the session assassin (kills sessions with no activity after 2 hours) in cron still. In case I do not get that done, just kindly log out when finished. But I should get that done soon.
The temporary URL is http://registry.coxe.net for those who want to get in. If you find pages with problems, just reply here. I will try to address them. Sorry for the downtime.

Try the link above and here (registry.coxe.net).impairedsquirrel wrote: ↑Thu Dec 29, 2022 2:20 amAny update on this? Am I the only one that's been trying and failing to get in for the last couple days?
The update is that the Registry will continue to run rehosted on this very old server. The only things missing presently are the image uploads over Oct-Dec and some minor code changes I made. Hopefully after the FUN show the hardware of the original server will be able to be repaired and, hopefully, the disks will be intact. If so, we will regain all of those lost images and will simply resume with the database in whatever state it is at that time. Using the present state will update the database as always. Whatever registrations and set changes made over this period will be restored.

I still cannot log on. Gives a 404 error code
Re: SSDC Registry Status
John, I had the same problem. I tried all of the links in this thread. The only one that worked for me was the very first posted link in this thread.
Maybe because the first one is the only link that starts with http://
