... so I won't, but I will vent a bit because I so had my sights on the 78-S VAM-50 on GC last night only to be out bid by someone also beliving this to be that coin.

C'mon peeps. If this was you, please gloat about your purchase... Sure there are others in AU58 holders... as well as higher grades, but dang I wanted to fill a hole that has been bugging me for a while.

If I misattributed the coin, I'm still a bit snarky with myself for the learning lesson I could have experienced by paying such a premium over a regular AU coin. Of course, I'd rather miss the learning lesson than miss out on the actual coin in hand.

Nothing ventured nothing gained, eh?

I did not follow that auction so can not comment on particulars.
I have been a 1878 s vam 50 fan for yrs, scarfing em up when available
They to have fallen in price but i truly believe a special vam/lava wing that will
always command a decent premium. Sure makes one take notice when Mint State
examples come around. My tops is ms63 & i have several 62's and dwn

vam 76 can be had in 62 and fairly reasonable with vam 81 a much tougher find
Amasing these 3 vams has been a real job and very frustrating at times, but the fun
has been picking un attrib vam 50 already in TPG holders PCGS/NGC mostly.

Ah, my friend @morganman... if you have a few spares I'd be willing to be a recipient... I do love the hunt yet I do love feeling the coin as I enjoy looking at it in 3-dimensions. Kinda like how I like my wife - she takes a pretty picture but there ain't nothing like holiding her. (Of course, I don't put her away in a coin box or my safe. Well, not any more. The first time was a horrible mistake... )

Was not me .. I had a rough weekend . Picked this up . So pretty in hand , I was happy for about 45 minutes driving home ... Got home pulled the loupe out before taking pictures for this forum and got a harsh dose of reality . Damaged ,, alt. surface and scratched. three words no-one wants to here after paying AU 58 money .. On the bright side the coin shop owner apologized and refunded my money Monday morning... it sucks so bad what someone did to her . Looked like a torch or laser maybe under all the scratches .. Saddest thing is maybe they were trying to remove a st clash, I'm just not sure

. and i get it if you just picked it up without a loupe it was very easy to see why because she was beautiful in hand .........only thing i picked up on GC was a Burnished Silver eagle I needed.
