1900-S VAM-3

Post by alefzero » Mon Nov 21, 2022 9:48 pm

There were only a few VAMs I still look for. Top of the list is 1900-S VAM-3A. I believe it is a listing error for a few reasons, but figure the imaged mint mark coin remains in the wild almost certainly raw. Additionally, just finding a VAM-3 has been a tall task. I have sought them for decades.

Our esteemed VAM guy, Brent, as we all know, had a major VAM theft recently. While realizing it was unlikely to find in the usual places, I immediately started looking for any of his coins. In the process, lo and behold, I located that VAM-3. It is further interesting in that it is a doubled ear lobe, something that was not listed commonly in the first edition book, when 3 and 3A were listed. I will let someone else update the page with my images (until fogie does better ones). The date is also arguably slanted.

If someone else can update the page for the VAM here, it would be appreciated. I don't have the time presently to figure out how the page editing works in the new VAMworld and not sure I have the necessary privileges anyway. The images are here.

If only i had abilities to have/develop pic's like these, I would be a very successful seller
due to size and scope of my collection. Unfortunately i must rely on Auctions like Heritage
who really know their stuff, having prof personel at all levels.

All sucks but this old dog not willing to change spots at this late stage. I had my chances. LOL
Maybe my NEMISIS, the Squirrel, could retire and come work for me as long as rusty shopping cart
comes along. LOL

The 1900-S VAM-3 page has been updated. I do agree that VAM-3A does not exist.

If VAM 3A does exist and is actually an S/wide S, I would think it would be the late die stage of VAM 3. The relationship would be like all the 82-O/S VAMs and their early die stages, where the S is revealed by the repair breaking loose.
Welcome to the VAMWorld 2.0 discussion boards. R.I.P. old VAMWorld.

I do not believe ANACS has seen either one ever, at least last time I looked.

And that is precisely why I added a couple images of reverse legend cracks. :)

Same goes for the 7/6. My 1887/6-O Prooflike exhibited less of the 6 underdigit than clearly later strikes.
