Hello other Bob ,
I have not used one with a Macro set up , but have used several with big glass.
In that case it depends on three things . lighting , distance vs magnification , and the quality of the glass.
Cell phones have way cool cameras , but i think the idea is the same . lighting (maybe polarized, but adjustable for coins ), distance or desired magnification for coins {field of view may be a factor for full coin pics, also adjustable . }and the quality of the glass /digital sensor sort of thing.
I am not sure about the Macro lenses or what ever you actually are looking through beside you cell phone camera. but that quality of the glass thing really seems to matter when using traditional phone scopes for pictures of wildlife etc .
If you buy one please share the pictures. it's lots cheaper than most options

My son got me an Insignia Mobile Photography Kit a while back. I tried it on an iPhone and an iPad.
The macro lens had to be so close to the coin (Morgan dollar) that there was not enough room for light to
get on the dollar for an acceptable photo.
I could not figure out how to get enough light, so I don't use it
