No one posts picks anymore... HERE'S A COUPLE!!

Post by impairedsquirrel » Mon Nov 07, 2022 1:01 am

I don't look for VAMs nearly as much as I used to, but you know what they say about blind squirrels, so here are a couple I've stumbled over in the last few months:
This one I bought because, well, for anyone that knows me it's pretty self-explanatory!

Then I nabbed this one because I haven't seen one of these in YEARS!!

This one I could use some help with. I'm not sure if I bought it more for the toning or for the polishing lines. There are some that blast through the toning and look a heck of a lot like staple scratches until they cross UNDER the TRU... look familiar to any 21-P guys?

I also managed to cherrypick a near MS 82-O/S VAM-4!
I go totally NUTS for WOW! VAMs!! Or is that from WOW! VAMs?

Awesome coins! You both suck!
Here's one I just received just yesterday...(yep, Sunday delivery  ) Bought on the Bay. First look, thought it was harshly cleaned. I think everyone else who looked thought so as well....got it for dirt cheap  Anyone care to help me with possible grade?
Enjoy!

The consensus was correct, hairlines on the cheek. If they are a generous mood (they aren’t) and the luster is still intact and the hairlines very minor in hand, they might give you 62. Or they could effectively net grade it and give you a 58 or 61. Grading is an art more than a science, and depending on a variety of factors the same coin can grade differently when sent back in, but that factor usually comes into play only on money coins when value justifies multiple grading attempts.

@impairedsquirrel Hey I have a question for you if you could spare a second . What is the vam number of your 1889 obverse ? sorry I am a little too green to just know these things by sight yet . I got all caught up the VAM 7's or 23 b c stuff and bought what I can only assume is the most common clashed lips /wrong die pair/ state imaginable but she is safe . No need to put this one under the hammer she is safe and sound in her holder .

Looks like you have an 1889-P VAM-7B1. VAM-7B2 has a third clash at the neck- line plus die cracks in "STATES OF".

Squirrel; Some here are scared to post pics in fear the rusty shopping cart with the nasty
toothed squirell will run us over. Some ol duffers also have no clue of mechanics
to post pics and could care less. LOL Leave all that to members who are pic savvy
and can still see decent LOL

On a sad note our beloved 14 mo old Australian cattle dog got run over and died
yesterday leaving Barb & I grief stricken. Like our only child and teenager who does
stupid things. Drive to vet was awful but in vain RIP Charlie

Thank you I kind of came to that conclusion after it showed up , and took a good look at all the hard work that went into the attribution pages on VAMWORLD . I can only Imagine a lot of these have been purchase due to not so good eBay pictures ,after your Lucky coin number 7 found in a 30 Dollar box . Way to go BTW! .... I shall wonder for a while if there will ever be a coin number 8 .

@impairedsquirrel Hmmmm that is interesting , explains why I could not match your clash , I do not see a VAM 13B within the list .... I thought maybe somewhere in the 23 B's but went to bed not really getting it .

@ morganman ... sorry to here about your dog man that sucks so bad ,,, people that don't have them don't really get it .

Still looking for the elusive cud on the 1891 o VAM 8a.... this one showed up today, the crack makes its way to the denticles and the displacement is easily to see above the M. Aren't there a few other date/mm VAMs that are listed as cuds at this stage?

Not an outright 'pick, but the bargain I got it for it makes it feel like one. Spectacularly original, problem-free surfaces and nice remaining lustre. Holder has some internal stress cracks, which don't matter since it will be going in for crossover.

When in doubt... don't.

Nice Dennis!

Recent pick highlights include

78s v58 in XF+/AU details
99o micro in 58/61 PL
A couple higher grade 79s r78’s

There’s a bunch more I’m sure I’m forgetting. Mostly just been making dollars at PC lately. Bulk turnaround times at PC are pretty good right now. My bulk circ batch only took 3 weeks from drop off to ship out 👍😎
