Your code.

Code: Select all

Click to view in high resolution. Then click on a region of interest.

Dramatically optimized code by using Gallery thumbnail for the image display.

Code: Select all

Click to view in high resolution. Then click on a region of interest.

What is the optimized code doing differently with the addition of the /1/ ? It displays the same.

The /1/ image is the gallery display image. This image is 246k and 900 px. The phpBB display is 860 px. Thus, the displayed image was scaled from 900 to 860 px. You used the original source image for the display. This image is 3.7 M and 3900 px. Thus, the displayed image was scaled from 3900 to 860 px. Firefox is a great browser for quickly displaying image properties. But you can get the information in other browsers in a cumbersome way. Firefox is a right click and properties.

When I pull up the gallery image at SD, there is no /1/ in the url. How do you know what the thumbnail number is on a given image at SD? For instance, if I wanted to post both the obv and rev, would it be /1/ and /2/, subsequently?

Let me try it with the reverse and you tell me if it's correct.

This is new territory for me. Don't want to chew up more on the board than necessary....Andy

PS: Using Chrome.

Yes, it is tricky to determine the url for the gallery thumbnail. Plus be aware that there are two thumbnails - one at 320 and one at 900 px. Depending on how Chrome works, you need to copy the link location for the 900 px image. In Firefox, right click on the 320 gallery thumbnail and copy link location, not image location. The image location will be for the 320 thumbnail and the link location will be for the 900 px image. The link location for the bottom left link of the gallery display will be for the 3900 px image. Very powerful to copy/paste from right mouse clicks.

Please check the reverse image stats. I'm showing that the displayed image in the message is 900x900, 256k. Once the correct coding was inplace, I had to save the image off to my desktop, then do a properties on it. I can't find a way to check the image properties in the message itself. I'll keep playing with it.

This information is for your 7:59 PM post above.

The displayed image is 860 px scaled from 900 px.

This is good. Only 246k to display. The optional source image is loaded on clicking the linked image.

3.7 M at 3900 px optional viewing (enlarge).

You have the best of all worlds fast performance on the post display image. High resolution for those who optionally click the post display image to link the high resolution image.

Man. This BB paired with SDs recent bandwidth upgrade and things are smoking.

Yep, I noticed the uptick in response times. So far, much better than the MB at VW 1.0.

I finally took a few minutes to study your LFCP. Scratch across the lower tail feathers. Nice photograph. Good o'l number 9. Or, at least, V9 reverse. Pretty good sleuthing; I just noticed that you identified the attribution in the opening post.
