1879-S Alligator Eye, Doubled Date, Closed 9, Engraved Leaves, S/S left, Set Low, Need Help
Reverse of 1879 (Slanted Arrow Feather, Round Breast)

I need help with this one. I went through every doubled date and doubled 79 on the page without any luck, then went down the slanted arrow feather list looking at each one. None matched. Any suggestions? 1 Doubled under upper crossbar, slightly doubled above left and below lower crossbar. 8 doubled bottom inside both loops and top outside of upper loop. 7 heavily doubled top of crossbar and under crossbar. 9 heavily doubled left outside of both loops, doubling inside left of upper loop may be in the punch as seen in other VAMs. Closed 9 Die scratch in front of eye starts above eyelid and goes down front as jagged line, faintly seen below eye. Can be seen using 10x loupe. Qualifies as Alligator Eye?

Die scratch starts at curl, curves through ear, slighter marks on high spots then comes out behind it. Slight doubling Designer’s initial with die chips on it and below it.

Thanks! that is it. I had looked at VAM-28 several times but dismissed it since the doubling in the 7 was not in the description or picture. The 8 doubling is minor but the 7 was as obvious as the 9s doubling on my coin. I have a later die state as the 3rd star right on the page FCP is only slightly deteriorated versus mine. The line in the ear looks different on mine but I think that is due to die wear also. One and done is that strange axe shaped symbol and another above the MM shown in the last picture on the page.
There are a few things like the line at the eye that I think should be noted on the page so I will do another post asking that some of my pictures and a comment be added.

know absolutely nothing about it. Your pictures are the best of best & i am super jealous LOL

gazzillionaire, but instead i am a tech idiot, with no clue on pics

Very super frustrating for me, so i completely gave up, just like all this crazy die state stuff
that is noe so damm important. LDS,MDS,EDS etc= I dont care in general, but everybody else
does and thats a problem for me, as its a technical thing of which i hate. To old to give a hoot
