This 1921 D is one of the earlier die stages of VAM 1B1. The capped R break is forming off the die crack above R.

Like Roger said this is a little later that the full blown EDS. Think this would be VAM 1B1 Stage 2

Nice coin Pat! It reminds me of the 1888O Vam 1BO that Russ out bidded me on years ago. A lot of eyes were on that date 1888O then and now. Still you find a way to make it happen.
