USPS question

Post by JackBnimble01 » Thu Jun 23, 2022 7:27 pm

Hi all…

Has anyone recently had to make
Any claim on any items likes coins/
Sports cards that went missing
Either thru theft or usps incompetence?
With full insurance on items?

If so what was the protocol and outcome?

This topic covered quite extensively on the PCGS forum. It seems coin related claims will not be honored unless they are sent certified mail. About 6 months ago, someone posted the USPS paragraph outlining the policy but I can't find it at the moment.

Collectible coins are covered by USPS insurance. Sending a bunch of change through the mail is not unless sent registered.

To make a claim, I think you have to wait 30 days then fill out the insurance claim paperwork. You need to have something showing that the insured value is legitimate, such as a copy of the invoice for the missing item.

No need to delete. There's no expectation here that people read other forums for answers to questions like this. Also, the reference to certified mail is incorrect. That offers no protection other than proof of mailing and acceptance by the recipient.

Registered is the key standard of shipping/insurance.
When in doubt... don't.

Found it:
https://about.usps.com/publications/pub ... 450%2C000.

Receipt, Bill of sale, apprasial required with any claim. Registered better than priority.

Remember that, in my experience, the USPS has a habit of refusing the claim at first. Don't give up! Go right back at them and insist they honor their insurance, after all you paid for it. It can be a pain in the butt but they need to be held accountable. When they lose money, they tighten up their processes and tracking so that they can mitigate future thefts.
