1921-D VAM 1AO - is it valid?

Post by vampicker » Fri Jun 17, 2022 4:11 pm

So I have the discovery piece on my desk now and I am wondering if any of you (Dennis) recognize this as another VAM. I have that strong sense of 'deja-vam' and can't find a match. The strike thru that caused the missing letter entry wouldn't get listed today. There are faint scribbles and a strong line in the center of the right (viewer's left) wing. Ring any bells?

Yup. VAM 1P. I see there's a VAM 1P1, 2, and 3 listed, too, and no real feeling for what the real die progression is among them. Obviously, with no die cracks, this should be VAM 1P1, and VAMs 1P2 and 1P3 would have to be sorted out.

Thanks guys. I'd call this VAM 1P1. I don't think it would affect the later stages. Based on this VAM 1AO should be eliminated.

And with a few clicks and keystrokes, 1AO is eliminated.

Here is a 1P3 I have on ebay if that helps in the sorting out of this VAM. https://www.ebay.com/itm/133877259290
Not trying to advertise here just for identifying the die progression.

The filled die was on an early stage with no breaks. A crack pattern matching VAM 1P would have likely prevented the duplicate listing from its inception. Thanks again for the help with putting this one to rest
