1880 VAM 56 exists

Had an example cross my desk today that matches the markers. No clash or break at the ear. Need to put the listing back in the main list

Did Leroy actually eliminate VAM 56 or did someone just move it on VAMWorld? I'm away from home and can't check at the moment. Also, a comment on the VAM 56 page says they're from different reverses. Is this the case?

It was never officially eliminated. I'd have to see a 56A in hand to confirm the two reverse dies, but the 56 I just did matched the reverse marker illustrated for the 'other' reverse.

The VAM-56/56A were a two-fer listed by LVA based on a coin I had as the DC back in early 2009. I likely had the DC but let it go into the pond back in January. If it is important, I can look and see if I have the letter from LVA.

Thanks Alan. The piece I examined had the reverse pictured on the page noted at different and EDS. It is a different reverse than the one you have pictured, not just an earlier unclashed stage. It is fairly nondescript beyond that line in the left wing that noted. Linking this thread to the page is likely all we really need to do with it.

Looks like 56, 56A, and 56B are all still in the catalog as of December 2021. Alan, if you have pictures confirming the assertion that the 56A had the 56B break, I'll formally delist 56B.
