Trouble of my own ID'ing 78 Philly

Post by vampicker » Sat May 14, 2022 11:00 pm

In my defense it had been turned into a store card back in 1988. The 1878 date is clear and the 4th right star might be slightly broken. The nostril appears to be reasonably intact. The reverse has the B2 short nock and the r of trust is intact. The host coin seems like it was scrubbed before it was overstruck. No visible die cracks and no clear markers. I've narrowed it down but so far haven't been able to conclusively pin it down

Creepy! Broken star narrows the field a lot; fortunately not something rare… maybe 135
