Help with 1878-P reverse of 79

Post by vincar73 » Sat May 14, 2022 4:04 pm

Hello all,
i bought this 1878-P rev. 79 and i couldn't attribute it.... seems very hard for me... and asking for your help

At first sight i tought it was a C1 reverse, but going through 200>>203A i think i didn't find it, then i went through C2 reverse 210>>215 but doesn't semm to be here too...

Another thing that seems strange to me ...look on top of T of UNITED on reverse. It seems to be a big dot..but couldn't find this on any of C1, C2 or C3 reverse... But this could easily be a scan illusion.

What you think also about grade?? Seems to have a nice luster

Thanks all.

So what looks like a dot on T of UNITED must be a pmd ?? I will take a look with coin in hand and let you know.

What you think about the grade of this coin??

The dot above the T looks raised based on the light direction. As far as the grade, maybe 63 SPL. The obverse may be PL but the reverse may just miss. Always a challenge grading flat bed scanner images.. :)

As Dave said dot really seems to be raised, but i think you are right....in hand it will look different..

Received the coin today and how @vampicker said ..... dot in hand looks different or rather it doesn't exist
Scans are probably more deceptive than photos
However coin in hand looks very nice and shiny ..... maybe PL
