77S TRADE DOLLAR

Post by JASONKFLO » Sat Apr 23, 2022 7:53 pm

This one I traded a MS-68 looking raw 2021 Morgan and A MS-69 looking raw O privy Morgan .
Plus 100.00
I think that was fair.
This coin has nice luster and color.
Small S
I will look at John's info and see if I can figure out what I got.
Besides the finger print on her face A really nice looking coin with tons of luster.
I am guessing would grade AU-50

Good weight and width , sounds like silver and tested perfect on the Sigma tester.
I may be developing A Trade Dollar problem

John it looks like maybe C-53.1 SLOT 42

Will try to go over your two coins later when I have a little more time. The one with a likely unlisted reverse is very interesting and would be great to list with your discovery and photo credits if it is indeed a new one.

I would be more than happy to send them to someone for better pics as well.

Yes, you got the attribution correct. The small s 1877-s was always overstated in its rarity. This is one that is actually a fun variety though. That break is impossible to miss. I think I registered two AU ones at the Registry and, if I recall, there were none represented in the Heritage or Great Collections archives. My feeling is that they are scarce but not rare. However, it might be one of those that went completely into circulation and finding a BU one could be a tall task. Just do not know yet. I have not seen one of those chopmarked. So they might have exclusively circulated on the US West Coast, as unpopular as they were with merchants. (Funny, huh? They had more silver than the Morgans.)
