PCGS Issues?

Post by HawkeEye » Tue Apr 19, 2022 7:45 pm

I was cutting PCGS a lot of slack because of COVID, but there has been plenty of time for them to recover their office.

I am now doing pretty good if I can get an order processed in 3 to 4 months.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

They are chewing more gum

That’s what is happening

Is it time to switch to Anacs?

They even didn't add an obvious VAM on label couple weeks ago.

They are way backed up. TrueViews are a big bottleneck and if you have gold shield the processing might actually happen after you have coins returned to you but the TrueViews do eventually come. I have had the wrong varieties attributed even though I had them and the appropriate PCGS numbers on the submission forms. Not sure what is going on there and, as an authorized dealer, I will not speculate. Things can always get fixed; the coins still are indeed what they are. I have heard NGC has been shower too and they are in a state that has taken a pretty different approach to COVID.

I did send in an order of three potty dollars to ICG, my first submission with them, and the turn around time was pretty fast. I mailed them on 22 March and got them back last week. ANACS has been fairly fast too. I think those two are also less slammed with the big Mint bullion orders.

Here is one of the potty dollars, the only cherrypicker variety I have seen and possibly the only one extant. Pretty neat coin and graded precisely what my expected grade was. (1878-S C-18.3 FS-801)

They have a higher volume than they can handle. I imagine their jobs board is pretty full at the moment.

I have also had an issue with Trueviews and it seems like they lag way behind. Right now I have a group that was returned on March 23 pending the images. I am still pending images.

Customers are hard to get and retain, easy to lose. I had hoped with new management that things might change, but I believe it has actually become worse.

They know they are behind, but keep offering specials that compound the issues. It is probably a staffing issue, but management eventually owns the problems. I wondered if their board is a real corporate board or a group of collectors?

I'm backlogged and have been for a while. The sheer volume of orders crossing my desk is up at the same time the complexity of some of the attribution requests has also increased. I can flip the easy or easier stuff back to the office in a day or two, but the other orders land in the slow lane.
