Hello everyone, I just got done reading difference between Double dies, but still confused. Can you tell me if this is a Vam or just machine doubling, and is it worth anything like this? It is raw circulated. Is it the medium D variety?

Hi pep58,
There are things about that coin that look counterfeit to me, but I may be wrong. There are others here who know much more than I do and you should wait for them to weigh in. If its not counterfeit, it is definitely "machine" or "strike" doubling.
Sincerely,
-Mel

Authentic coin, best I can tell, with machine doubling. Not a doubled die.

You might want to check out a copy of "Guide Book of Peace Dollars" from your local library. That should answer a lot of your basic questions.
