Not sure why it got removed. I put it back. I'm considering giving it a different number, since it's not a die stage of VAM 35, but haven't done that yet. Maybe it'll end up being VAM 135.

Not sure what happened here but I put it back in the SSDC registry (both in the 1879-S set and the 1879-S B rev. set).
Have a great day!

OK, I see it’s now VAM 135; now the SSDC registry set(s) need to be tweaked (35A now 135). So what’s the story with this one? Ultra rare?? 2019 discovery but none in SSDC registry; hence, none of the top sets lay claim to having one or are there several out there and just combined with V35 population?

Re: 1879 s vam 35A rev of 78
Super rare. Only a couple known, I think. Renumbered because it isn't the same die pair and the population is sufficiently low such that renumbering it has minimal effect (unlike what changing 34A and 34B would). Unlikely to be mixed in with the VAM 35 population except maybe in low grade, since one side is the same.vamnuke wrote: ↑Sun Mar 20, 2022 7:57 pmOK, I see it’s now VAM 135; now the SSDC registry set(s) need to be tweaked (35A now 135). How did this one fly so low under the radar, especially when such a high interest specialty set? I don’t remember much (any?) fanfare about its discovery in 2019. No discoverer listed on on the page on this site. Curious…

He has found some nice coins!
Still, given the popularity of the 79-S B reverse set along with incredible price increases the past few years, it’s surprising that it has been such a low profile…

It was the subject of an About VAMs column when the discovery piece came across my desk.
often the crusher of hopes and dreams

On SSDC, 79s B rev slot #10 needs to be updated back to VAM-39 (not VAM-135)
