An abused 1878 P, obverse is a lock VAM 81. Reverse is a mystery. Perhaps VAMdome would attribute. Leaf is connected. Legs not doubled. Talons doubled. Extra metal to the left of the eagle's left leg, on viewer's right. The only reverse die crack is shown... as it begins above the left leg and passes to the left of the leg. Die polishing lines extend from lower left wreath toward "E" in one, and elsewhere. No evidence of die clash on upper left wreath.

Maybe take a quick look at VAM 30

Yup. Thanks. (Blush) looked right at it, but was misled by the extra metal to the left of the left leg on the example in hand.

i love the serious doubling of vam 30. but hey, i'm a doubled die guy at heart.
