1904-O with Clashed Obv G

Post by Pareidoliac » Fri Nov 02, 2018 12:04 am

No horizontal die polishing line below LA in DOLLAR. No doubling of F in OF or t in Trust in legend and motto. I saw a 28A for sale on eBay that had no horizontal die polishing line. Can it be a 28A without the die polishing line? There aren't many Obverse Clashed G 04-Os, but I can't find a fit for this one.

As it is difficult for me to attend coin shows, I have to identify VAMs from photographs.
Unlike in-hand examination, I may not see the listable features.
So I often rely on die markers.
My first guess is that your coin may be the VAM-2A.
Enclosed are some die markers, let us know if they are a match.

I know that the 02-O's and 04-O's are Scott's specialities, but Kurt I think you may have nailed it.
My vote like yours Kurt is 2A.

Many thanks, gentlemen. I was only beginning to make my way through the links provided by ljs when Kurt's arrow came whizzing past and hit the bull's eye. I have confirmed all of those die markers.
