1888-P Slanted Date Doubled 1, All Stars Doubled, Doubled Reverse with tripled leaves, clashed die possible ltr transfer
1888-P Slanted Date Doubled 1, All Stars Doubled, Doubled Reverse with tripled leaves, clashed die with possible letter transfer.
I made a list of every 1888-P VAM with the different reverses and can't match this to any of them. Help is appreciated.
Date slanted with last 8 far from rim. Date lateral position is normal: C3/LE5 1 Doubled slightly both sides of vertical shaft, bottom of upper crossbar may be strike doubling, bottom lower crossbar doubled.
All 8s Doubled both bottom outsides of top loop, slight doubling both mid-outsides of lower loop. Third 8 Appears to be inverted as noted on many 1888 obverses and has a broken bottom left side. The three eights show similar doubling to each other and per the VAM-10 page this is strike doubling. There is a progression with the doubling of the outside left edge of top loops becoming wider as the 8s go to the right.

‘TA’ doubling, ‘In’ heavily doubled, ‘God we trust’ doubled.
Clash at wing would extend to right edge of n foot, light and no apparent clash between left wing and wreath.
Polishing lines eagles left leg and tailfeather area. Wreath clear, slight doubling bottom of tail feather?
Another spitting eagle, or just PMD? Coin took a few hits.

This coin - top right leaf tripled inside in addition to doubled middle leaf vs VAM-37
This coin - top right leaf in cluster tripled inside, left leaf not doubled like VAM-38

Did you eliminate the V35 family?

Hi, Thanks for feedback.
Yes, looked at that pair very close. Unfortunately not many photos on pages. The doubling at base of TA nearly identical but the In on my posted coin has much heavier doubling. I found a PCGS MS66+ CAC on the Heritage Auction website (Listed as VAM-35A by Heritage, NMOH). The date per VAMWorld page is "Date at left edge of normal position." I blew up the date on the 66 and it is LE3/RE4 so different position than on posted coin. The full coin reverse also looks like there are lines in the wreath.

Your coin would not be VAM 35. Leroy said the date is at the left edge of normal on that one, and yours is dead nuts normal.
