Fishing in the Bay

Sometimes, when fishing in Ebay with murky photos, you have to take a chance based on the best information you can find. Thanks VAMWorld, for providing the information.

Now, what could an 1896-O in an old PCI holder called a repunched date actually be? I have been looking for an 1896-O VAM-12 for some time now. Haven't seen any.

Well, it might be a VAM-19. Or, it could be the VAM-12. Or it might be any one of the many doubled dates in the series. Hard to tell from the photo. It sure looks like a solid near date, so that eliminates the VAM-19. That might be a doubled 6 shining ever so softly to the right in the photo. Or it could be a bagmark. Hard to tell. I can't see a doubled 8 or a doubled 1. Let me blow the photo up. Nope, still can't tell. Hmmm, the blurry mint mark is also in the right place. I wonder..... So, no bids, AU 53? Best offer? I guess I should take the chance. Another duplicate imposter is the only risk, that and the PCI plastic. Oh look! My offer was accepted....

Got the coin in hand today. Oh Look! It is the VAM-12. And it's now the Top Pop in the SSDC registry. Well, how about that! First best pick this year.

Pretty neat. Haven’t paid attention to this ine(kinda hard, my wife packed up ALL of my reference material and sent them to storage).
