Need help with a 1900-O, please.

Post by Raybob15239 » Wed Feb 16, 2022 9:53 pm

Picked this up because it didn't look quite right. Near slanted date. But the mint mark is round and high. Kind of looked like the micro O, but too big for it. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Close. Obverse is good, but MM is set up right and further left than 67.

Can you provide LFCP’s? I’m leaning towards Vam 15 series.

Mintmark is not a match for 15.

The mintmark seems to have taken a hit that flattened it upwards and to the left at some point, along with a lot of circulation wear. Very difficult to attribute VAMs in worn coins like these because so much detail is missing. Unless you can see die gouges or crack patterns that lead you in a certain direction, its pretty much guessing. I don't see anything in your photos that would attribute it as part of the listed contemporary counterfeits. I think I would call it a garden variety VAM-23 and move on.

Not a VAM 23. Here are full coin photos.
