OT Toning Help/Opinion

Post by jrfaust » Thu Feb 10, 2022 3:20 pm

Hello all, I have a Morgan and Peace $ that I would like your opinion on the toning. I've read a couple good articles on toning, but I still can't tell the difference between artificial vs natural. I've sent coins to PCGS, ANACS, ICG and have gotten everything from "Questionable Color" to AT and some that have straight graded...... So as a rule I try to stay away from heavily toned coins. I do have a couple that I bought years ago and to me they look as if they could go either way. I'm sooooooooo confused. :?
Could I get some opinions on these 2 coins and is it worth sending to ANACS for grading and VAM Atts? I have more pics if needed.....
Thanks for any input! :D

I don't think the toning will fly with either of them. Maybe the Peace dollar if you're lucky.

Looks like some sort of napkin window sill toning. Does not enhance the coins and probably hiding something.

Thanks everyone. The 1885 is a VAM 25, I only paid $26 for it several years ago, so no big deal. I'll keep both as they are.... Thanks again for your input. :)

AT on both IMO. Those purples and blues with not much other color spectrums are usually bad news.
I had to learn the hard way that just because a coin may get tagged as artificial doesn’t necessarily mean that it was in a literal sense. It’s more about market acceptable toning than the method in which it was toned.
