so many error messages

Post by DHalladay » Wed Feb 02, 2022 5:59 pm

Something has changed recently with this site, or its host. I can't go an entire day without attempts to open a board, open a PM, etc. to unpredictably become VERY slow and always be followed by a "General Error" message. This one is 2002, but I just got one involving my attempt to open a PM that said 2006. Hitting the refresh button always snaps things back, but does anyone know what is happening?

I've been seeing this, too. I need to investigate this. It has happened to me on the wiki once in a while, too. Perhaps the databases need optimization. I rebooted the server a couple days ago thinking that might do the trick, but it didn't. Hopefully there's something in a log file somewhere that's meaningful. If I need to take things down for a little while, I'll post an announcement before I do.

Yes, it started last night, but seems intermittent and something to do with accessing the database. Several different error messages have been seen. I was uploading some photos and editing some pages which weren't displaying or saving correctly. So I had to stop.

Yes, I've seen a few different error messages. It makes me think there may be some cache/temp table issues. But I've usually only had to deal with these after a database update.

fwiw, i started a tracking folder on my notebook for all the errors (screenshots) i've been getting since c19 kicked in. not one single site i visit, none, have gone this whole time w/o various kinds of errors/site down.

tbh, i think vamworld has one of the fewest error messages for me but i'm not here as often as most of you.

I found and fixed one problem related to searching in the wiki. It was reporting a lot of errors, but there's still something else wrong. I'll continue looking at this tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Forward facing systems are having to devote an increasing portion of resources to intrusion protection. Attempts to break into a system and steal or corrupt data are now constant. This can cause a system to prioritize protection over service and produce stray error messages, depending on where and how the threat occurs.

Nice work. The pages load much quicker now and error free since yesterday.

Glad nobody's having problems. There's still more to do. I had to disable e-mail from the forum, so if you've subscribed for e-mail notifications you'll stop getting those. Attempts to contact someone by e-mailing them won't work, either.

Fabulous improvement. No error messages since your handiwork was done.
Thank you!
And as an added bonus, my arrow back function once again goes back more than just one page! :D
