1878-S VAM-69 LDS - Broken G and r, die scratch reverse
My 1878-S VAM-69 appears to be an LDS based on further deterioration of the r in trust and the G in God from what is shown on the Full Coin Photo from the VAMWorld 2.0 page. There is also a long die scratch from about the eagle’s neckline that goes up under the beak then under the o in God and then up to the second T in STATES. While the engraved eagle’s feathers “can’t be mistaken for any other 78 S die variety” per Leroy the unmentioned broken G had me looking for an alternate die for a while. If in agreement I think the new pictures would be helpful on the page. Note that the examples of the G and r were cropped and resized from the Ron H Full Coin Photos on the page. This deterioration also means that the VAM-69 die pair occurred after the earlier stage reverse of the VAM-102 die pair.
