Simple test for chrome?

Picked up a 91-O 1A on Ebay, Listed as "1891-O AU Mirror like" for $55. It was not listed as a 1A. I assumed that it was polished but when I received the coin it looks too shiny,. The Face is smoother than the reverse and was probably a strong EF-45. It weighs 26.658 g, Mic's to 2.73 mm

Is there a simple, non destructive way to test for chrome? This coin has been through enough...

I have a Peace Dollar that has the same surface. Nasty.
Take it to a coin dealer that has a hand held x-ray deally.

Isn't this the same look as old silver coins that were rubbed with mercury?

Someone used jewelers rouse and a buffing wheel on the coin , which harden the coin surface .

I am going with the jeweler's buffing, still happy I picked it up.
