The rim lettering is strong, even though the high points(hair, bufalo head, tail)look vf, and it has strong luster. Unusual to see a 1916d struck this poorly. I see 1917d struck like this and worse. I’ve seen half horn mint state 17d. I’m gonna say au. That buffalo head doesn’t look right for an unc. Too much dull flatness.

I had a 1919s that i picked as a good 4. Saw it through the rotator. $4. Coin was a poorly struck au. The employee who pulled it out of the case went berserk, screaming, yelling, and demanding to know who graded and priced it. Of course, anacs gave it a vf35. Net grading based on strike is wrong. They did that to my 1864L 1c called it xf40 weak strike. Ended up in a pcgs au58 defective planchet holder.

I'm amused by the thought that somewhere is a F 15 coin in an EF 45 holder.
And glad there isn't a website that exposes my errors.
