Back from Leroy 1880-P New VAM-86 Doubled 80 & 1884-O Revised VAM-8, Help with pages please.
Took me some time to post this. First my scanner refused to save the printout of Leroy’s pictures as jpg files even though I set it to do that. Next took pics with my iPhone but those transfer to PC through cable as HEIC files so non-MAC PC can’t open them. Finally downloaded app to my iPhone to convert HEIC to jpg so I could send them by email to my PC.
I posted the 1880-P to VAMWorld 2.0 on Sep 9, 21 As “Overdate, Doubled Neck, Motto, Date” with one comment that it they did not see evidence of an overdate. So, I sent it to Leroy. As expected my magnification is too high so what I saw is not easily seen with a 10X loupe, but the features are there. He did agree that the 8 & 0 are doubled and it is new VAM-86. He also spotted a raised area behind the eye and determined it is “Strike thru on die of curved raised line near hair back of eye.” There was also a comment in the letter, but not in the description, “Strike thru coin indent back of eagle’s neck.” I have attached my picture of this but as an ‘indent’ it would seem to be on this coin only.
There are a few features that I think should also be noted in addition to Leroy’s description. One is the die surface deterioration ‘doubling’ at the I and other letters in PLURIBUS as that is easily seen with a 10X loupe. Another is the doubling at the neck, or is that damage? First group of pics will be for this coin. I’ll add another post to this thread for additional pics of this and the next coin. (Any idea who has VAM-85, I don’t see it on VAMWorld 2.0?)

Hope someone has access to Leroy’s picture archive as the printouts that he sent have lines in them.

Looks like 80 VAM 85 was listed in October
85 III2 79 ● C3a (Doubled 880) (181) I-2 R-5
Obverse III2 79-- Doubled 880 with left 8 doubled at lower left outside of upper loop and top inside of lower loop,
right 8 at lower left outside of upper loop and 0 slightly at top right outside and strongly at lower left inside.
Die chip right side of left 8. Die marker- Die polishing lines in TY of LIBERTY. Vertical die scratch lower
left outside of eye.
Reverse C3a-- Die marker- Die polishing lines wing-neck gap.
Edit: Just found the pictures. There are 5, which I'll upload in a bit.
Another Edit: 80 VAM 85 page is up. This is the quality of pictures we'll have when we replace existing Leroy pictures with the ones I have now.

Hopefully I am wrong but I am fairly certain your V85 is already listed as V59

Mine is the new VAM-86 and it has what looks like a bolt going thru top of 0.
I had asked about the VAM-85 as it was not posted yet. Not sure who submitted that.
