I believe that you are right, but if a die was pulled from production and rebaisned or repolished I always assumed that the cycle could start over.
For example, if you look at the 1881-O VAM 5 the hair at the neck is almost completely polished out. This could only be done with repeated repolishing. So, in my opinion, this die is downstream from another with greater detail that is not paired with the O/S reverse. So for the VAM 5 to exist in PL or DMPL condition it has to come from repolishing
